1. Programs for each day will be handed out upon arrival. There is no charge for this running order of the day. Admission fees are:
$7 per adult, $5 per senior, student or child (for festival day)
2. Tickets for the sessions and highlights concerts are on sale now at the UVIC box office in the Farquhar auditorium.
Admission fees for the Highlights concert are: $15 per adult and $12 for seniors, students or children.
THE SCHOOL DANCE HIGHLIGHTS CONCERT is on May 11th at 7pm. Students are to show up at 6pm at the UVIC Farquhar Auditorium around the side. It is a good idea to encourage your parents to purchase tickets in advance because there is only reserved seating for this special concert. I will notify you about this after festival, as soon as we hear if we made it in!!.. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO ATTEND GALA HIGHLIGHTS CONCERT if we are chosen to perform. This is a privilege to be chosen into the Gala Highlights concert.
3. Parents and other audience members are asked to sit at the rear of the auditorium, not with the students, unless they are part of the supervision. Flash photography and video taping are strictly prohibited. Students and all audience members are expected to stay for the full session (i.e. morning or afternoon), so they can enjoy the performances of other schools and also to provide a supportive audience for each other.
4. The Tuesday BEGINS at 9:00 AM (we will be in the morning sessions)
5. All performers, with the exception of the first three numbers, must be in their seats or in their assigned change rooms/backstage during opening remarks.
6. Spacing can be done on a first come first served basis. The stage will be OFF LIMITS 15 mins. prior to start time. That only gives a very short time to set spacing and/or show your students the stage. Please be respectful of other groups waiting and if you have a large number of entries, pick only a couple to do spacing.
7. Students must come backstage as a group, 2 numbers before their performance. When they have finished they should wait for a break between numbers before proceeding back to their seats in the audience.
8. Students are expected to watch other performers quietly, taking bathroom breaks between performances. All teachers and supervisors are expected to sit with students at all times and make sure they are well behaved. Appropriate theatre behaviour is expected from everyone and students will be asked to leave the auditorium if proper etiquette is not adhered to (no eating or drinking, feet off the seats, appropriate language, not listening to the ushers etc.). If behaviour is considered inappropriate, your school may not be invited back next year. Remember, there are board members, donors of the festival and other members of the community coming to watch the performances!
9. Two students will go up for each dance piece's adjudication. Audience members should remain quiet during this time and listen to what she is saying.
10. Music must be on separate CD’s for the sound man. Mark each CD with your school's name and title of the dance and please mark if they start on or off stage. This is to be given to him upon arrival at the auditorium - don't forget to collect your music before you leave.
11. Short-term parking permits are required and can be purchased form any of the dispensing machines located at every numbered parking lot outside of Ring Road. The cost is $1.00 per hour or $5.00 per day (a better option, I think, than feeding the meter). Instructions are posted on each machine. Park in any non-reserved stall in any (blue-coded) numbered parking lot outside of Ring Road and prominently display your permit on the dashboard. Parking lots #5, #7 and #10 are the least busy and it takes only 20 mins. to walk from one end of campus to the other.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO REMEMBER THAT THERE IS TO BE NO FOOD OR DRINK (OTHER THAN WATER) BACKSTAGE. LUNCHES/SNACKS CAN BE ENJOYED IN THE LOBBY OR OUTDOORS, WEATHER PERMITTING.
* .Students are expected to watch other performers quietly and respectfully, taking bathroom breaks between performances, refrain from using any form of technology, and ensure that respect is shown to all auditorium personnel. NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE AUDITORIUM.
*ALL TEACHERS AND SUPERVISORS ARE EXPECTED TO SIT WITH STUDENTS AT ALL TIMES AND ENSURE THEY ARE WELL BEHAVED. IT IS A PRIVILEGE FOR US TO PERFORM IN THE FARQUHAR AUDITORIUM AND IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE USE THIS FACILITY IN A RESPECTFUL WAY.
Thank you everyone! Please connect with me if you have any questions or concerns.
